Rizik is the artist project of Los Angeles-based musician and producer Hisham Dahud.
A self-taught multi-instrumentalist since childhood, Hisham put his creative ambitions on hold for over a decade while working as a marketing strategist for music legends like Richie Hawtin, DJ Shadow, Junkie XL and many others. Unable to ignore his own call to create, however, he soon hit an emotional breaking point.
“That was never what I was truly after,” he says. “While I enjoyed it, I fell into that world because, frankly, I was too afraid to commit to music. I didn't have it in me, so I lived adjacent; a textbook example of a shadow career. But all that's changed now."
After reaching the zenith of the industry supporting artists, the time had come to carve his own path.
"As far as we know, this is the only life we have. I'd rather take a chance and maybe fall on my face saying 'oh well' than asking 'what if' for the rest of my life."
Once again focused on music, Hisham adopted the name Rizik, loosely translating to the Arabic word for "blessing". While also his mother's maiden name, Rizik represents something even bigger.
“Rizik serves as a reminder to me, and hopefully my audience, to never let go of an innate ability that makes you feel good about yourself. This has been a cathartic endeavor for me and my hope is that it serves as a ray of light to anyone stuck in the darkness of their own self-doubt."
